Submissions for Issue 10, Aphasia, Now Open

We are interested in work that engages with the perspective of medicine, healing, personhood, and community in a broad sense. We are holistic in our understanding of medicine or healing, so please do not feel as if you must submit only narrative medicine work.

We publish any genre — poetry, prose (fiction, nonfiction), visual art, essay, etc. We do not publish research studies. Anyone may submit, not just medical students. For Issue 10, we will publish in both print and online.
Submissions are open from Nov 10th to January 31st at 11:59 PM PST.

We are also holding a call for work that engages with our theme for this issue: Aphasia

Aphasia is a medical term describing an impairment or inability to speak, write, read, or understand language. It is often the consequence of neurological damage, but there are many etiologies and variations on how aphasias can manifest in patients. For our theme, engage with aphasia - or loss of language - however you wish to explore it. What is language if it's lost? What is communication without words?
